Jacking industrial heritage Enschede
This important industrial heritage of Enschede is one of the buildings that has endured the big fireworks disaster in the area. However, the building had substantial structural damage. The Balengebouw was transformed into a cultural place, designed by the architectural SeARCH, Rem Koolhaas and OMA. The unique ‘tower’ and upper floors of the building were jacked up for 3 meters, to achieve sufficient floor height for an extra glass floor. Nowerdays its used by a newspaperfirm and televisionstation.
